September 04 If I Were A Heroes CharacterHmm so I was browsing around LiveJournal the other day and they have a "Writer's Block Question of the Day" to help users write SOMETHING should they unfortunately run into the dreaded dilemma many writer's eventually face at one point or another. Anyway, to get to the point, I was browsing archived questions for giggles and came across one that asked: "If you could be any cartoon/video game character, what would you wear?" And then on Facebook, I added an application called My Heroes Ability. You come up with a character name and mini bio and play with whatever ability you get when you first start playing and you have the opportunity to learn more skills that are in the category of your ability and also the opportunity to learn new abilities. So I got to thinking...if I were a Heroes character, who would I be? Well, here goes nothing: Name: Nemesis (Νέμεσις); origin -> Greek "retribution, righteous anger" About: In Greek mythology, Nemesis (also known as Adrasteia [inescapable', or 'Tracing Goddess] or Rhamnusia [in honor of her sanctuary in Rhamnos]) was the spirit of divine retribution who punished arrogance, evil deeds, undeserved happiness or good fortune, and the absence of moderation, vengeful fate personified as a remorseless goddess. The name Nemesis is related to the Greek word νείμειν, meaning 'to give what is due'; 'she who distributes or deals out'; 'due enactment'; or 'divine vengeance'. With a discriminating eye she directed human affairs in such a way as to maintain equilibrium on earth. Happiness and unhappiness were measured out by her, with firm care being taken that happiness was not too frequent or too excessive. If this happened, Nemesis could bring about abrupt and catastrophic losses and suffering. Along with Dike and Themis, wise goddesses of Justice, Nemesis was one of the assistants of Zeus, the king of the Olympian gods who was regarded as the founder of law and order. Her parents were said to be either Nyx (Night) alone without a father, or the Titans Oceanus and Tethys. Nemesis is considered by some to be the mother of Helen and the twins called the Dioscuri. It's said that Zeus once fell in love with Nemesis and relentlessly pursued her on land and sea. Leery of his intentions, Nemesis avoided Zeus by constantly changing forms, finally transforming into a goose. Not to be outdone, Zeus in turn took the form of a swan, and from the egg she laid came Helen, the ultimate cause of the famous Trojan War. Abilities: Pyrokinesis, cryokinesis, telekinesis, mind control, ability augmentation, appearance alteration, aura absorption, bliss & horror, clairvoyance, dream manipulation, electrical absorption, electromagnetism, lightning, flight, omnilinguilism, super strength, telepathy, teleportation, space-time manipulation August 28 Good Morning, Starshine! The Earth Says, "Hello"!Hello all. I'm - miss adams - I choose not to use my first name because...well pretty much because I can. I will, however, allow you to call me Anne. Don't ask why, I'd just prefer it if the entire world didn't know my name. Nothing personal, it's just a preference. SO...what to write? Randomness of course. It's my specialty, along with sarcasm. So of course these entries will NEVER make sense entirely. Just thought you should know before I really get started and you end up sitting there with this 'wft' expression on your face as you reach for the aspirin for that headache induced by confusion. HOWEVER, on occasion I may be nice and just write for the sake of writing. Maybe a poem or a story...just maybe. I'm not guaranteeing a thing. I make no promises that I am incapable of adhering to. Well, that about does it for now. Happy reading. - miss adams- aka Anne |
